Autumn is here but it is unseasonably warm here in Somerset.
Usually in September I turn to my trusty slow cooker to create some simple nutritious evening meals. However it is still safely packed away in the cupboard for now.
Nevertheless now seems to be a good time to think ahead and start planning the meals that I will be making.
I don’t know about you but I love a traditional stew in the autumn/winter. There is something so comforting about it. Making it the day before also adds to the flavour so its a great way of planning ahead. When I make a stew in the slow cooker I put all of the ingredients in together. Vegetables on the bottom and meat on top. Although I don’t add any seasoning or stock cubes at this point. I add them about an hour before which allows all of the vegetables to release all of the flavours they contain.
How do you cook yours?
Of course slow cookers aren’t just about stews or casseroles. There are all sorts of recipes that can be found simply by “googling” One that I tried last year was Slow Cooked Chicken Korma. It was a huge success in our house. The upside is that you can make it just how you like it and it is relatively cheap to make. I don’t follow recipes to the letter I add and take away at will!

Have you got any recipes that you turn to in the autumn? Might not be a slow cooker one (although I love having new recipes for that so do share) It could be another family favourite. Like, one of our best loved meals, Cottage Pie (minus the onions as my kids will find it no matter what!)
Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know what your preferred dishes are in Autumn.
